Police will drag river for boy, 6. Chum saw him start down the bank. Feb. 21- Upon the theory that Lawrence Palmer, six year-old, Whittier School student who disappeared late Monday, had fallen through the ice covering the Saginaw River near the Cass Ave. bridge. Bay County officers will begin dragging the river Wednesday morning. Sheriff William Schindehette and Chief Deputy Charles Kindermann, who are heading the search, said that their investigation late Tuesday had uncovered the first tangible clue in the case. Donald Parker, six- year-old chim of the missing lad, reluctantly told the officers that the last time that he saw Lawrence was when young Palmer started down the river bank apparently to cross the ice on the river. Previous to information officers here had feared foul play. Additional Comments: Copied from original article found in my Grandmother, Bertha (nee Chase) Palmer's Bible. Lawrence was her grandson.
