Saginaw Daily News Nov 13, 1927 W.E. GOODMAN, DIES Was Resident Here for More Than 60 Years, Active in Business. William E Goodman, manager of the retail and pipe department of the Consolidated Coal Co, and for many years a prominent business man here, died Sunday night at his home 821 South Warren Avenue, after a brief illness. He had been at his office last Thursday and though he complained of slight indisposition, his condition was not known to be serious. Mr. Goodman was born in Lockland, Hamilton county Ohio, March 14, 1856, and came to Saginaw in the early sixties, receiving his education here. He taught school for a short time and for a number of years he was associated with the interests of two of the men who were prominent in Saginaw affairs, Jesse Hoyt and William I. Webber. Then for a number of years he one of the partners in the coal business of Goodman & Winkler. When the Consolidated Coal Co, was formed a score of years ago, Mr. Goodman became associated with the new concern, and had been a valued member of its organization ever since. He was a member of the Royal Arcanum and other fraternal orders. Mr. Goodman was married November 11,1884 to Miss Anna Hewitt of Saginaw, who survives him together with one daughter, Mrs. Miles A. Beale, Detroit; one brother, Frank A. Goodman, Hemlock, one sister, Mrs. Harriet G. Loveland, Ann Arbor, and five grandchildren. Additional Comments: Wm Goodman's father and grandfather were both Michigan Pioneers. Rev John Storey Goodman and his grandfather both born in England coming to Michigan circa 1830.
