Martin Mannion of Saginaw Township, one of the early lumbermen of the Saginaw Valley, died at his home in Saginaw Township at 9:40 o'clock yesterday morning of gastritis at the age of 69 years. Mr. Mannion came to Saginaw county in 1866 and shortly after entered the lumbering business. His first venture was as a member of the firm of Allen and Mannion, the other member of the firm being Frank Allen. The larger part of the firm's business was in Clare County. In 1887 Mr. Mannion retired from the lumbering business and purchased the Lockwood farm in Saginaw township, which has since been his home. Mr. Mannion was a member of St. Andrew's church, Gage Tent No. 111, K.O.T.M. He was born November 9, 1846, in Galway county, Ireland and came to this country in 1851, with his parents, settling in Dansville, N.Y., where they made their home until 1866, when Mr. Mannion came to Saginaw. He was married November 23, 1868, to Miss Ellen Egar, of Saginaw. He is survived by four sons, Martin, John and Frank of Saginaw and Walter Mannion of Saginaw township; three brothers, Frank Mannion of Mt. Morris, Patrick Mannion of Washington, and Thomas Mannion of New York; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Dailey of Lansing, Mrs. John Tool and Mrs. Richard O'Connor of Flint, and ten grandchildren. The funeral will take place at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday morning from the family home and at 10 o'clock from St. Andrew's church and the interment will be in St. Andrew's cemetery.
