In 1846 Margaretha and her husband Johann Adam List journeyed to Frankenmuth, Michigan as part of a group of emigrants to perform missionary work. This group of about 90 emigrants came a year after the original group came over with their paster Johann Konrad Wilhelm Loehe and founded the town of Frankenmuth as well as St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Adam's younger brother Johann George List and his wife Maria Lotter arrived about a year earlier and were part of that original group. Margaretha died on November 04, 1899 and was buried at St. Lorenz Lutheran church in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The two brothers are buried at the location of the original church while their wives are buried across the street next to the current church.
