Dec 20, 1893--NELSON BARCUME, aged 61 years, resident of St. Louis, Gratiot Co, MI; stated that while on duty at Culpeper, VA in Mar 1865 he contracted rheumatism and chronic diarrhea; stated that since leaving the service he has resided in Monroe Co and Gratiot Co, MI; witnesses WALDO H. LITTLEFIELD and HENRY SHAUS. Feb 11, 1907--NELSON BARCUME, aged 73 years, resident of Twining, Arenac Co, MI; declaration for pension increase; stated he was born Jul 15, 1833; witnesses MAUDE MOSHER and LILLIE M. Aug 25, 1917--ELLEN BARCUME, aged 78 years, resident of Ashley, Steuben Co, IN; declaration for widow's pension; stated she was born Sep 18, 1839 at Rigo, Canada; that she married the soldier Sep 7, 1857 at Hogansburg, NY and that neither had been previously married; that NELSON BARCUME died Aug 23, 1917 at Ashley, IN; witnesses LUCILE B. BRANCH, resident of Ashley, IN and BERT KEMP, resident of Forest Hill, MI. Jan 21, 1918--FRANCINKEY KEMP, resident of Gratiot Co, MI; stated she has known NELSON and ELLEN BARCUME for 25 years; that the Barcumes had resided at Coe Twp, Isabella Co, MI for 2 years, St. Louis and Twining, MI for 16 years, and Ashley, IN for 7 years. Jan 21, 1918--GEORGE L. KEMP, resident of Gratiot Co, MI; statement identical to the above by FRANCINKEY KEMP. Jun 17, 1918--JAMES B. HALL, aged 64 years and MARY A. HALL, aged 60 years, residents of St. Louis, Gratiot Co, MI; stated that they have lived in St. Louis for the past 3 years and formerly lived near the city of St. Louis, MI for 38 years; that NELSON and ELLEN BARCUME lived as husband and wife up to the time of his death. Jun 19, 1918--EDWARD H. BRANCH, Ashley, IN, attorney for ELLEN BARCUME; letter to Pension Bureau stated "I am enclosing a certified copy of the marriage record of Nelson Barcume and Salina Demo [sic], Salina being her French name she having changed her name to Ellen." Jul 2, 1918--SALINA BARCUME, Ashley, IN; letter to Commissioner of Pensions; stated that her "correct Christian name is Salina, widow of Nelson Barcume"; letterhead reads 'Globe Indemnity Company, New York'.
