She was 61 years old. Mrs. Smithers had been in ill health for some time, and had undergone an operation for relief from appendicitis at the local hospital. She was born November 28, 1878 in Toronto, Canada and moved with her parents to Niagara Falls, New York during her childhood. She was married in Niagara Falls on February 1, 1893 to William Smithers and moved to Manistique 24 years ago. Mrs. Smithers attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of Hiawatha H. No. 266 of the Lady Maccabees, having served the local congregation ads Mistress of Arms. Surviving was her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Inez Tufts of Chippewa, Ontario and Mrs. Carl Linderoth of Manistique, and one son, William Smithers of Manistique Heights. Two sisters, Mrs. McCarthy of Syracuse, New York, and Mrs. William Dennis of Hamilton, Ontario and ten grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the family home. Rev. George B. King officiating. Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Morton Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Charles Howard, John Riley, Fred Burley, Arthur Graham, Orville Klagstad and Louis Laux.
