Mrs. Carolyn[sic] HARDER, Pioneer of North Newburg, Is Taken
Esteemed Octogenarian Had Lived in One House Last Sixty-One Years

   Newburg, September 22.--The passing yesterday at eleven a.m. of Mrs.
Carolyn[sic] HARDER, widow of Norman A. HARDER, removes from this vicinity one
of the picturesque pioneer figures.  Carolyn Amelia CARR was born at Palmyra,
N.Y., December 25, 1833, and came with her parents to Michigan when eight years
of age, settling in Antrim township.

   She lived there until her marriage September 26, 1858, to Norman A. HARDER,
who was the youngest son of Dr. Nicholas P. HARDER, of Newburg, who at that time
kept the tavern here.  Coming as a bride to this hotel, she has lived
continuously in the same house for sixty-one years, and her home has been known
all over this section of the county for its generous hospitality and spirit of
friendliness.

   Mr. HARDER died in 1914, and since that time her daughter and husband, Mr.
and Mrs. Harry H. MACKEY, have lived with her and given her the tenderest care
and attention.  The deceased has been an invalid for several years.  The
deceased was the last of her father's large family and had outlived her
generation.  The only near relatives surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Pearl E.
MACKEY, a grandson, Glenn T. HARDER, and his daughter, Janette, of Detroit.

   The funeral will be held from her late home Wednesday afternoon at one
o'clock, with interment in the Newburg cemetery.

   The deceased was a member of the Baptist church and one of the most prominent
and highly respected members of the North Newburgh[sic] Farmer's Club.
