HARDER, on the oldest settlers and best known residents of the county, died Tuesday evening at 5 o'clock at his home at Newburg, three miles north of Bancroft. His death was sudden and unexpected. The funeral will be held from the family home Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Norman HARDER was the last of the descendants of Nicholas HARDER, who was a well known figure in the early history of Shiawassee county. Born June 9, 1837, at Newburg, he has lived all his life in the county, and ever since his marriage September 27, 1858 to Miss Caroline CARR, he has resided in the house in which the ceremony was performed. Two children were born, a son, who died some years ago, leaving a grandson, Glen C. HARDER, who was at the home of his grandfather at the time of his death, and a daughter, Mrs. Harry MacKAY, of Durand. Mr. HARDER was a man of exemplary character and sterling worth. He was a successful farmer, a kind neighbor, and a good citizen. He took an active part in public matters, and was a leading spirit in his community. The family have the sincere sympathy of many friends.
