Mrs. Mary Jane MORRIS, widow of Joseph MORRIS, who attained her 93rd birthday anniversary on Mar. 13, passed away at her home in Vernon, early Friday morning, following an illness of pneumonia. The funeral was held from the home on Monday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. G.H. CURTIS, of Howell, a former pastor, officiated, and he was assisted by the Rev. H.A. HUEY, of Waterford, Mich. The Rev. and Mrs. John AUSTIN sang. Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Mrs. MORRIS, who was Mary Jane PERRY before her marriage, was born on March 13, 1842, at Cincinnati[sic], N.Y., later moving to Lockport, where she attended school and later taught. She and Mr. MORRIS were married at Lockport on August 19, 1863, moving to Shiawassee county in 1865. They came to this village over 30 years ago. He died here on May 9, 1920[sic; actual date of death was May 11, 1921]. Mrs. MORRIS was a devoted Christian and church worker during her active life in the community. She held many offices in the Methodist Episcopal Church here. During her last illness she had the constant care of her son, George, and her daughter, Mrs. Frank STRAUCH. Surviving are one son, George; three daughters, Mrs. Frank STRAUCH; Mrs. Jessie ESCOTT, of Corunna, and Mrs. Nettie WISNER, of Shiawasseetown, and six grandchildren and 10 great grand-children.
