The Reed family were the last owners of this all brick house, the first one in Vernon, built in 1846. It sat on the bank of the Shiawassee River. The house contained 12 rooms and 4 fireplaces, the walls were thick and the interior woodwork was beautifully paneled. The bricks were said to have been made on the banks of the river. The house stood for 112 years mostly unchanged. In 1915 the house was sold to my Great Uncle DF Reed & he resided there until 1934 at which time his son LaGrande Reed married and took over the home. In 1945 the house was used as the caretakers home for the Greenwood Cemetery . The cemetery was on the land that was orignally where the house was build. In 1961 the house was razed to make the cemetery larger. Many members of the Reed family are buried there today. Info about house from the Shiawassee Library and LynnPL81.
