Times Picayune, New Orleans, Louisiana. May 27, 1876
May 26, 1876. Miss Gertrude Morehouse of Portland, Mich. is the first woman
lawyer in that state who has received a commission as a notary public. She was
appointed by Gov. Bagley.



Additional Comments:
Transcriber Note; Gertrude was the daughter of Sarah and Albert Morehouse. Ms.
Morehouse was born in New York state in 1842.
