Death of Civil War Veteran
Ionia, Mich., March 19.- General J.H. Kidd, Civil war veteran and Indian
fighter, died at his home here tonight after a long illness. He was born in
1840. He succeeded General Custer in command of the Sixth Michigan Calvary in
the Civil war at the close of which he was breveted brigadier general of
volunteers. General Kidd took part in the Powder River campaign against the
Indians, establishing a post and building Fort Reno in Wyoming.
