 THREE YALE PEOPLE FATALLY INJURED IN WEEKEND ACCIDENTS
      Two auto accidents and a hit and run accident have claimed the livves of
three Yale residents and also injured one other woman from Port Huron. Two
teenage boys were killed when the 10 speed bicycle they were riding on M-19,
North of Yale, was struck from behind by a truck. A 62- year old Yale woman
was killed early Sunday morning when the car she was riding in went out of
control, left Yale Road and landed on top of her. Linda Smith of Port Huron
was also injured in a two car accident Thursday afternoon (see related story)
 TWO Jr. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS KILLED IN HIT AND RUN
      Timothy Wayne Peacock and Harold Phelps Dudley, both 14 year old Jr.
High School students, were killed Friday evening when the 10-speed bicycle
they were riding ws struck by a pickup truck. The accident happened shortly
after 8 p.m.
      The two youths were riding their 10- speed bike back to Yale, having
visited a friend north of Yale. Clad in dark clothing with very few reflectors
on the bike, the youths were riding down the center of the road at the time of
the accident.
      A pickup truck, south-bound on M-19 near Fisher Road, struck the two
boys, thorwing them nearly 300 feet from where Sanilac County Sheriff Deputies
feel was the possible point of impact. Witnesses to the accident said the
driver of the truck stoped at the scene and then fled south towards Yale.
      Police officals from Sanilac, St. Clair and Lapeer Counties began a
frantic search for the suspect, mainly in the Yale area, but were unable to
find the vehicle involved.  
        Peacock, 14 of 205 Division Street, Yale, was killed almost instantly,
suffering severe head injuries ans also neck injuries. Dudley, 14 of 13075
Jeddo Road, Yale, died in the emergency room at Yale Hospital mearly three
hours after the accident.
      Dudley was rushed to Yale Hospital with severe head injuries as well as
multiple fractures. Survival Flight from Ann Arbor was called in to assist
with the accident victim, but at 10:54, the 14- year old was pronounced dead.
      Saturday moring, Charles Robert Ernest turned himself in to Sanilac
aurhorites after making a phone call letting them know where he was. Ernest ,
30, of 11530 Metcalf Road, Yale was charged with leaving the scene of a
personal injury accident and is free on a $5,000 personal bond. 
      He faces a March 1st preliminary examination in front of District Court
Judge Richard Riordan after standing mute to the charges on Monday of this
week. Pending further investigation into the acident, Ernest may face further
charges as well.

 YALE MAN WAIVES HEARING IN TWO HIT-AND-RUN DEATHS
      A 30-year old Yale man has been bound over to Circuit Court on charges
steming form the hit-and-run deaths of two 14-year old boys Feb. 3.
      Charles R. Ernest, 11530 Metcalf Road, waived his right to a preliminary
examination when he appeared before Judge Richard P. Riordan on a charge of
failing to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident.
      Authorities believe Ernest was driving a pickup truck that struck and
killed Timothy W. Peacock, of 205 Division St., and Harold P. Dudley, of 13075
Jeddo Road, both of Yale, about 8 p.m. on M-19 near the Sanilac County Line.
      Police said the truck hit the bicycle the boys were riding in the center
of the road just after the truck passed another vehicle. The boys were not
wearing reflective clothing and there were no lights and few reflectors on the
bike.

 HAROLD P. DUDLEY
        Harold Phelps Dudley, 14, of 13075 Jeddo Road, Brockway Twp., Yale, died
friday evening, February 3, 1983 in the emergency room of Yale Community
Hospital. He was involved in a bicycle-truck accident on M-19 north of Yale.
He was born in Yale on November 17, 1969 the son of Mr. Ronald W.Dudley of
Yale and Mrs. Evelyn Hamlet Church of Detroit. Harold was a 7th grade student
at the Yale Middle School and had just joined the wrestling team.
        Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Ronald, 17 and James,
15 and a sister, Tina, 12; Step-brother David; grandmother, Mrs. Delphine
Dudly, all of Yale and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
        Rev. Willard Williams, Pastor, Trinity Missionary Church, Yale, officated at
furneral services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Kaatz Funeral Home, Yale.
Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Yale.
        Pallbearers were Ron and Joe Dupuis, Roger Hicks, Tony and Philip Shib, and
Kenny Goodrich.
