PORT HURON -- Eugene M. Heilig Sr., 72, of Port Huron died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 
2003, in his residence after a long illness. He was born Sept. 26, 1930, in 
Minden City, the son of the late Edward and Anna Heilig. He married Josephine 
Rawlins on Dec. 20, 1956, in Marysville. Mr. Heilig retired in 1991 from 
Prestolite after 32 years of service. He was a loving grandfather and enjoyed 
watching the freighters. He is survived by his wife, Josephine of Port Huron; 
his daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and John Dyer of Millington, Shelley and 
Charles Rix of Port Huron and Janis and Louis Bigger of St. Clair; his 
daughter, Cathy Heilig of Port Huron; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and 
Frederick VanSlyke of Port Huron; his son and daughter-in-law, Eugene "Gino" 
and Jessica Heilig Jr. of Port Huron; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 
his sister, Marie Clor of Port Huron; his brothers, Clarence "Doc" Heilig of 
Port Huron and Gerald "Jake" Heilig of Whitmore Lake; and several nieces and 
nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son; two brothers, 
Anthony "Tony" Heilig and Edward Heilig; and a sister, Agnes Clor. Private 
family services have taken place. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the 
family. Arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th
