Johnston Sr. (picture) FORT GRATIOT - James J. Johnston Sr., 86, of Fort Gratiot, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998 in his residence following a short illness. He was born May 6, 1912 in Port Huron, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Johnston, and was a life long area resident. He married Dora Fye on Jan. 27, 1933. She died Nov. 15, 1983. Mr. Johnston served in the U.S. Army and is a retired truck driver. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James J. Jr. and Judy Johnston of Columbus; his daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Phillip Lutze of Kimball; four grandsons, James (Maggie) Johnston of Fort Gratiot, Billie (Rosa) Johnston of California, Marshall Johnston of Kimball and Jason Johnston of Kimball; seven great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Garcia Johnston of Port Huron; his brother, Ray Johnston of Arizona; his sister, Josephine Green of Port Huron; his sister-in-law, Genevieve Johnston of Lakeport; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Barnes and a brother, Thomas. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
