Straffon, Sr., PORT HURON - Raymond Ernest Straffon, Sr., 94, passed away on Friday, March 25, after a short illness. He was born February 7, 1911, in Reese, Michigan, to parents Grace and Ernest Straffon. Mr. Straffon was an auto parts salesman for most of his life. He took great pride in his work, but the real joy of his life was music. His father, E.E. Straffon, was director of the Port Huron High School Big Reds in the 1940s and 50s. Raymond was interested in all kinds of music, from playing the tuba in a variety of bands (high school, city, college) to playing the bass fiddle in Bob Seibert's Orchestra. Mr. Straffon enjoyed playing in a variety of country clubs, retirement centers, and local landmarks such as the St. Clair Inn. Raymond married Mildred Eleanor Harmon on January 19, 1936, and they enjoyed a wonderful life together until her death in April 1986. He married Winifred Hewitt in May 1987, and they too shared many happy times together. She passed away in December of 1995. Raymond Straffon loved his family and friends. He never complained, but instead saved his energy for the important things in life. H e was an absolute joy to all who knew and loved him. His recollection of long- forgotten events was outstanding, and his loved ones enjoyed listening to the early recollections of his life. Surviving are his children, Raymond E. Straffon, Jr. (Sally), Port Huron, Judy (Jim) Becks, Munising, Mich.; grandchildren, Shari Straffon (James Dewey), Port Huron, Suzi Straffon (Mark Nitzel), New Baltimore, Kathy (Wade) Mallard, Munising, Patty (Steve) Mather, Belleville, IL, James (Jodie) Becks, Grand.Forks A.F.B., N.D., Edward Becks, Munising; great- grandchildren Nicholas and Elizabeth Dewey, Michaela and Caleb Mallard, Megan, Craig, and Michael Mather, and Matthew and Brianna Becks.
