With the passing of Mrs. Summers went a figure well known and respected in and around Capac for many years as a religious worker and as the eldest member of a family of which five generations were living. The deceased was born in London Township, Middlesex County, Ontario in 1838. In 1861 she was married to James C. Summers in Blanchard Township, Ontario, where she resided with her husband only a short time. From Canada, Mrs. Summers and her husband came to this country and settled on a farm just southeast of Capac. For nearly 50 years she had lived there alone, her husband having passed away in 1882. She had seven children, six of whom as still living, three sons and three daughters. Mrs. Summers was an active member of the Methodist Church wherever she resided and was a devout Methodist until about 25 years ago. At that time she embraced the faith of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which religion she followed until her death. For many years Mrs. Summers had been retired, having left the management of her farm near Capac to her son Frank Summers. During the winter months she had been in the habit for several years of spending the cold season with her children in Port Huron. During the summer she invariably returned to her Capac farm. Mrs. Summers is survived by three sons and three daughters, all of whom live in Port Huron with the exception of a son, Frank, who is in Capac. The sons and daughters are: E.J. Summers, 912 Whipple St.; Tennyson Summers, 618 White Street; Frank Summers, Capac; Mrs. C.C. Whitford, 640 Tenth Street; Mrs. Mary Perry, 1618 Griswald Street; and Mrs. John Harrison, 821 Sedgwick Street; Eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive. The five generations that are represented in the picture above are seated left to right as follows, Mrs. C.C. Whitford...Mrs. Ann Summers...Norman Keith Laythrop (5th generation)...Mrs. Roy Jarvis (Port Delhouse, Ontario)...Mrs. Clarence Laythrop (Niagara Falls, NY).
