Charles Edward Wessel MD
August 2, 1953 - December 2, 2022 
Charles Edward Wessel, MD, a long-time resident of Clawson, passed away on 
December 2, 2022, at the age of 69.  Charles was born to his parents, Leo and 
Eileen (Essenmacher) Wessel on August 2, 1953, in Port Huron, Michigan.  Charles 
grew up in Port Huron in a large loving family.  He graduated from Port Huron 
Catholic High School there in 1971.  Charles then went on to earn his bachelor’s 
degree at Michigan State University, and then attended medical school at Wayne 
State University to earn his MD.

Charles married the love of his life, Susan Corbett, on September 28, 1985, in 
Royal Oak.  They would spend the next several decades together, creating a 
loving and caring home for their son, Alex and grandson, Jacob.  Charles loved 
his family beyond measure.  He had many friends who were dear to him (many 
friendships spanning decades) and happily called all to share silly jokes.  
Music surrounded him constantly and Charles' energy and curiosity were 
boundless.  Charles loved his work as a family physician and was highly 
dedicated.  He practiced for 40 years, the last 20 being with Park Family 
Medical Centers.

Charles will be long remembered and loved by many, including his wife, Susan 
Wessel; his son, Alex MacKinnon Jr.; his grandson, Jacob MacKinnon; his mother, 
Eileen Wessel; his siblings, Michael (Cheryl) Wessel, Theresa Wessel, Susan 
(Chris) Streeter; Gregory (Annalisa) Wessel, and Carol (Ray) Szewc; and many 
cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Charles is preceded 
in death by his father, Leo Wessel.  In lieu of flowers, the family of Charles 
Wessel suggests you donate to a charitable organization or make random acts of 
kindness of your choosing.  Published Gramer Funeral Home Clawson, Michigan.
