He is the son of Harold Dale and Evelyn (Drudge) Bryarly. His nick name was "Buddy". As he got older, it became "Bud". Bud had a troubled childhood. He grew up in downtown Elkhart. His parents had divorced. His father role came from his step-father, Eugene Dewayne Artley. He quit school in the 10th grade. He was working as a gas staion attendant when he met Nancy Lou Green. They were married on April 18, 1959 in Niles, Michigan. They lived in Niles, MI for a time. In that time, two daughters were added to the family. In 1968, Bud and Nancy purchased one acre of land in Mottville Twp., St. Joseph, Co. Mi. The land was full of pine trees. They cleared the land themselves and poured a foundation for a mobile home. While they were clearing the land, they lived in a tent on the property. In 1969, a son joined the family. Bud was hunting in Baldwin, MI. So the girls and his mother made a sign "It's a Buck" and put it on the outside of the home , so when he pulled in the driveway, he would know he had a son. Bud was a very hard worker, going to work even when he was sick. He was an all round good man. Bud grew up in the city, but I believe he was a country boy. He and the family raised ducks, chickens, geese, and rabbits. He enjoyed being out doors. Bud and Nancy were co-owners of "The Mottville Black Powder Shop". They were associated with Pokagon Long Rifles, Brothers of the Wind of Indiana, and other pre-1840 groups. His indian name was yellow canary. They traveled to rendezvous to sell beads, feathers, blankets, powder horns, muzzle loaders, and various other pre-1840 items. Bud was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996. He passed 3 months later on October 27, 1996, surounded by his family and a friend.
