His age was 69 years, 5 months and 7 days. For many months within the past year the deceased was seriously ill, but all spring had gradually overcome his enfeebled condition and in a great measure had regained his ever-rugged healthy and activity. But a sudden severe cold, quickly followed by pneumonia, baffled medical skill and loving care. It is doubtful if throughout this entire community anyone was better known that the deceased, who was familarly addressed at "Stite" and whose genial, happy ways, real wit and goodness of heart, are well known to us all. during all his life he had resided in Burr Oak and was one of its real pioneers in the fullest sense of the term. Mr Hackett was born on New Years day, 1846, on the present Ed. S. Kibbe farm, now within the village limits. At That time the farm extended father to the east and the parental home, now long since removed, stood near the present site. His parents were natives of New York State and came to Michigan about 1836. On June 25th, 1864, Mr Hackett was united in marriage with Miss Marilda Louisa Munsell, also of Burr Oak, and to them were born nine children, four of whom died in their younger years, and on Janurary 19th, 1892??, the mother passed away. The surviving children are Mrs Cora Milliman of Burr Oak, Otis Hackett of East Colon, Burt Hackett of Burr Oak, Mrs Nina Sweezey of Sturgis and Guy Hackett of Sturgis.
