Mowry son of Henry and Martha M. Mowry was born April 2, 1891, in Matteson township Branch county, Mich. His boyhood and school days were spent in and around Sherwood, attended the college there and whereby his courteous and pleasant ways and genial disposition he won many warm friends who were grieved to hear of his death. When war was declared between the United States and Germany he became inspired with a patriotic desire to offer his service to help win the war and was among the first to enlist. He was at Billings, Montana at the time and enlisted in the Ambulance Corps which was sent to Spokane, Washington, and from there it was transferred to Camp Cody, New Mexico, where he passed away after a short illness with pneumonia, Feb 10, 1918. To further show his good standing he had just been promoted as a member of the hospital organization. He was also helping to win the war by buying three Liberty Bonds. Those left to mourn the loss of a loved one are his father, Henry Mowry, one brother, Joseph Mowry, Matteson, three sisters, Mrs. Sibbie Bennett, Matteson, Mrs. Nellie Cline, Union City and Mrs. Zoe Catelle, Mendon and a large circle of friends. His mother, Mrs. Eartha M. Mowry, and two sisters, Mrs. Matie Butler of Mendon and Mrs. Rosa Nash of Matteson have preceded him to the great beyond and are waiting on the other shore to welcome him.
