Upham having taken him. His father, a civil engineer of great ability, died and his mother was unable to care for him as she wished. By a lucky reading of a certain news item in The Acorn, Master Charles found a father and mother in Mr and Mrs Upham, and to say that he likes his new home is putting it mildly, as he says he never wants to learn them.
