JOSEPH DAILY/WEEKLY PRESS, THURSDAY, FEB.25, 1909 TWO BENTON HARBOR WIVES OBTAIN DIVORCE CHARGES IN BOTH CASES ARE CRUELTY AND NON-SUPPORT Two Benton Harbor wives were granted decrees of divorce in the chancery court yesterday afternoon, and a singular feature of the proceedings lies in the fact that both obtained the decrees on the charge of cruelty and non-support. Josephine Elson one of the complainants in the Elson vs. Elson case was the first to obtain a decree, and she was given the custody of three children of which the parties to the suit are parents. Frances Appleyard, another wife, dissatisfied with matrimonial alliance, was also granted a decree from her husband John Appleyard. The complainant wife was allowed to resume her maiden name Frances A. Helmer through the order of the court. H.S. Whitney appeared as attorney in both cases.
