GETTY was born in Alleghany County, Md. His parents removed to Tuscarawas County, Ohio, when he was quite young, where they went on a farm. He attended the Smithville Academy, Wayne County, Ohio, after which he taught school some five winters. He also attended the Northwestern Ohio Normal School at Ada, Ohio, from which he graduated in 1879. He read law in the office of John A. Hostatler at Canal Dover, Ohio, and at-tended two courses of law lectures at Ann Arbor in 1881. He was admitted to the bar at the latter place in 1882. He then came to Caro and became a member of the firm of Hurst & Getty, attorneys. He was elected circuit court commissioner for Tuscola County in 1882. He is married and has one child.
