He was 69. He was born on May 26, 1927 in Caro. He was a lifelong resident of the Caro area. He served as a medic in the US Army during WW II in Guam and Hawaii. He married the former Ruth Rickwalt on May 24, 1971 at Caro United Methodist Church. He was employed at the Caro Community Hospital in a variety of capacities until his retirement. He and his wife, Ruth, also spent much of their time on Bois Blanc Island. He was a life member of the VFW Post 4164, a member of the Caro Lodge #1049 Loyal Order of the Moose, the Bois Blanc Volunteer Fire Department and Tuscola County Archers. In the early years, he was involved in activities of the American Red Cross and programs for both Girl and Boy Scouts. He attended the Coast Guard Chapel on Bois Blanc Island. Survivors include his wife, three sons and three daughters: Frank and Denise Rowell of Holt, Fred and Mary Rowell of Dearborn Hts., Beth and Marty Risedorph of Ypsilanti, Michael and Marsha Kaplaniak of Caro, Linda Ford of Caro, Laura Naughton, HM3, USN, stationed in Rota, Spain; seven grandchildren, Tanya, Christina, Robert, Ryan, Ashley, Amy and Seth; one brother, James and Julie Rowell of Roscommon; several nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Fred Rickwalt of Caro; special friends, Jim Hutchinson of Vassar and Cliff and Jan Baker of Gladstone. Funeral service was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Saturday, September 28 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Calvin Blue of Caro United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Ellington Township Cemetary with military graveside services under the auspices of Caro VFW Post #4164. Memorials may be made to the Caro Community Hospital Endowment Fund or the family discretionary fund. dz
