Nelson was the son of Luman Larrabee, Jr. and Adeline “Addie” (Chase) Larrabee, and Ruth was the daughter of Robert C. Born and Alice Martha (Jeffery) Born. Nelson and Ruth had no children. Nelson was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany during World War I. Nelson and his first wife Doris Coleman had a son, Matthew Coleman Larrabee, who was a Fireman Third Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He lost his life when his ship, the USS Meredith, was sunk by enemy action in the South Pacific on October 15, 1942. He was officially declared among the missing dead on October 16, 1943. Ruth was previously married to Max Golden, and they had one son, Robert C. Golden.
