GIBBS APRIL 10, 1919 SEPT. 18, 1944 Maurice R. Gibbs was the son of Ray Edgar Gibbs and his first wife Alma (Rutherford) Gibbs. Maurice was one of nineteen men killed in a Army C-47 transport plane crash near Mount McKinley, Alaska. Although a thorough investigation of the area was conducted, none of the victims were found. The peak where the disaster occurred was later named Mount Deception. Fifty years later—in 1994--a monument was built on the highway from Palmer/Wasilla to Fairbanks to commemorate the nineteen men who were lost on that mountain in 1944.
