The Marvin B. Gibbs family monument has the surname “GIBBS” inscribed just 
under its obelisk-like area. One side of the upper area of the monument bears 
the following inscription: 

M.B. GIBBS
NEW YORK JUNE 17, 1839
CARO AUG. 18, 1893
___________
	
MARGURET J.
BORN FEB. 4, 1841
DIED MAY 16, 1912

The other side bears this inscription:

C.F. GIBBS
CARO AUG. 2,  ???? [Illegible]
CARO APR. 21, ???? [Illegible]

N.L. GIBBS
CARO  JUNE  14, 1882
????  MAR. 29, 1883  [First word is illegible]

Buried on this lot are Marvin B. Gibbs (June 17, 1839 – August 18, 1893), his 
wife Margaret Jane (Delling) Gibbs (February 4, 1841 – May 14, 1912); and two 
of their four sons, Chester Frank (August 2, 1868 – April 17, 1873); and N. 
Lyle Gibbs (June 14, 1882 – March 29, 1883).  Each has a grave marker in 
addition to the inscription on the large monument.

Marvin was the son of Melvin Gibbs and his first wife Mary (Benson) Gibbs, and 
Margaret was the daughter of William and Mary (Waterous) Delling.  Marvin and 
Margaret had four children:  William Melvin “Mellie” Gibbs (April 16, 1859 – 
March 26, 1895), Daniel Ozelle “Zellie” Gibbs (1863 - ?), and Frank and Lyle 
who are mentioned above.

Margaret remarried in 1902.  Her second husband was Alonzo “Lon” Richards 
(1847 - ?), son of Lewis and Julia (Behner) Richards.

Note:  “Marguret” as it is inscribed on the monument appears to be a 
misspelling of “Margaret”, as she was referred to in family records and on her 
death certificate.  There is also a discrepancy in her date of death which, on 
her death certificate, is shown as May 14, 1912 with a burial date of May 16, 
1912.  According to Frank’s death record, he died on April 17, 1873, not  
April 21, 1873.
