Harriet was the first wife of Sabin Gibbs (October 3, 1823 – March 25, 1905), the son of Joel and Elizabeth (Root) Gibbs. Sabin and Harriet had three children: Helen E. Gibbs, who married Jeremiah Hooper; William A. “Ami” Gibbs, who married Emma C. Swinehart; and Cora B. Gibbs, who never married. After Harriet’s death, Sabin Gibbs married Adaline C. (Black) Hewes (November 12, 1832 – October 4, 1892), the widow of Nelson Hewes (July 1, 1829 – March 1, 1864) of Tuscola. Sabin and Adaline had no children, but Adaline had a daughter, Flora A. Hewes, by her first husband. Buried on this lot are Sabin Gibbs, Sabin’s first wife Harriet (Watts) Gibbs, Sabin’s second wife Adaline C. (Black) Hewes Gibbs, and Sabin and Harriet’s daughter Cora Belle Gibbs. In addition to the four grave markers, there are inscriptions for Sabin, Harriet, and Adaline on the family monument on this lot.
