His first wife Margaret (Flack) Larrabee (1837 – May 19, 1882), whom he married in 1853, emigrated from Ireland to New York with her parents Samuel and Margaret Jane “Jane” (Hall) Flack in about 1849. Sometime between 1865 and 1870 Luman and Margaret Larrabee moved from Oswego County, New York to settle in Juniata Township, Tuscola County, Michigan where Luman lived for the rest of his life. Luman and Margaret had ten children: Horace, Jane, Lewis, William J., Luman, Jr., Samuel, Mary, Burton, Edward Clyde, and George. The first six children were born in Oswego Township, Oswego Co., NY, and the last four were born in Tuscola County, Michigan. All of the children remained in Tuscola County except for Edward, who later re-settled in Albion, Orleans County, New York. In 1864-1865 Luman Larrabee served with the 184th NY Volunteer Infantry, Co. I. For many years there was no headstone on Luman’s grave except for a GAR marker until Charles B. Osgerby, a great-great-grandson of Luman Larrabee, arranged to have this Civil War Veteran’s monument placed on Luman’s grave in 2007. Additional Comments: After Margaret’s death in 1882, Luman married Calista June (Giles) Smith (January 2, 1830 – December 27, 1883), who died when she and Luman had been married for less than two years. Calista had five children by her first husband David Smith. Luman’s third wife was Charlotte S. (Rice) Withey (June 1831 – March 25, 1913). Charlotte’s first husband was Livius Withey, and she had four sons by him. Luman Larrabee, Sr.’s grave is in Block A, Sec. 82. Also buried on this lot are Luman’s first wife Margaret (Flack) Larrabee and his sons William J., Bert L., and George C. Larrabee.
