After the death of his first wife and two young children in 1849, John traveled to the United States with his younger brother Jabez Osgerby and settled in Racine County, Wisconsin where Jabez married. Soon afterward John returned to England and married Elizabeth. In 1852 John and Betsy emigrated to Milford, Oakland County, Michigan, where Elizabeth’s sister Ann and her husband Samuel Garner had settled. John and Elizabeth’s first child, John Joseph Osgerby, was born in Milford. In 1854 John and Elizabeth moved to Richland Township, Delaware County, Iowa to homestead near John’s brother Jabez and his family who had moved there from Kenosha County, Wisconsin. John and Elizabeth remained in Richland Township until 1873 when they returned to Michigan to settle on a farm in Denmark Township, Tuscola County, Michigan. John and Elizabeth had six children: John Joseph, the twins Miles and Giles, William, Jabez Kaleb “J.K.” Osgerby, and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Osgerby. All of the children except for John Joseph were born in Manchester, Richland Township, Delaware County, Iowa. With the exception of Giles and Lizzie, all of the children are buried in Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Also buried on this lot in Block B, Sec. 1 of Riverside Cemetery are Elizabeth’s husband John Thomas Osgerby; their son William Osgerby; their son J.K. Osgerby; J.K.’s first wife E. Lusettie (Hathaway) Osgerby; J.K.’s second wife Reine M. (Torrey) Osgerby; and three of J.K.’s children, Lela E. Osgerby, C. Fenton Osgerby, and Jean Louise Osgerby.
