Morgan married Carrie M. (Smith) Slafter (June 16, 1858 – 1936), daughter of Jacob and Lovina Smith of Canton, St. Lawrence County, New York. Morgan and Carrie had no children. Morgan was orphaned when just a young child. His parents were James Morgan and Antoinette (Fry) Baldwin, who had settled in Tuscola County in the early 1850s. Morgan’s father James purchased land in various Tuscola County townships during the period 1851 to 1854, and the title to some of the land he purchased in Vassar was in conjunction with David G. Slafter and Joshua D. Smith. Morgan had an older brother, Albert V. Baldwin, and an older sister, Jennie Baldwin. All three children were named as heirs in the 1860 will of their paternal grandmother, Sarah (Burt) Baldwin, who lived in Chemung, Chemung County, New York. Sarah passed away in May 1864. Morgan’s grave marker is on the David Grow Slafter family lot in Block M, Sec 14 where his adoptive parents David G. and Ann (Lucas) Slafter and his wife Carrie M. (Smith) Slafter are buried. There is a large Slafter family monument on the lot. Note: In Morgan’s obituary in the Saginaw Courier Herald on January 9, 1916, his surviving sister is referred to as Miss Nettie Baldwin of Binghamton, New York.
