March 15, 1922 Matilda Ellen Hipshier 1854-1922 MRS. HIPSHIER, MOTHER OF LARGE FAMILY, CLAIMED BY DEATH Mrs. Matilda Ellen Hipshier, mother of 15 children, died last evening at 6:45 o'clock at her home, 604 Ferry street, after a prolonged illness from a tumor and from dropsy. For the last five weeks she had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Hipshier was born in VanWert, Ohio, April 15, 1854, making her [illegible] at the time of her death. She had resided in Niles about five years. Of the fifteen children born to her, 11 survive their mother. The are Mrs. Ellen Cowgill . .[illegible], Roscoe and Fred Hipshier of Niles; Mrs. Irene Coon, Alonzo and Alvin Hipshier of Benton Harbor; Mrs. Lottie Statler, Watervliet; Charles Hipshier, Grand Rapids and Mrs. Lydia Palmer, Bartlesville, Okla. Besides the children she is survived by 17 grand children and 13 great grandchildren. Two brothers, Tilas Taylor of Keeler and David Taylor of Benton Harbor and two sisters, Mrs. M.M. Thomas, Hamlet, Ind., and Mrs. John Hubbertt of Green Acres, Wash., also survive. Funeral Services will be held at the home Friday morning at 9 o'clock and at the Keeler church on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will take place in the Keeler cemetery where Mr. Hipsier[sic] was buried six years ago. (Source: Niles Daily Star-Sun, Wed.
