W. H. McCurdy, ex-postmaster at McDonald

Walter H. McCurdy, 80, retired postmaster at McDonald, died Friday at 
Community Hospital.  Coming from Chicago, he operated a general store and was 
postmaster at McDonald for many years and was the unofficial mayor of that 
community. McCurdy waged a lengthy campaign, which met success when the state 
conservation department established a public fishing site on Van Auken lake.  
Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to a farm north of Hartford.  
Mrs. McCurdy, the former Mabel Wade, died last year. 
They were married June 5, 1909, at Chicago.  Born in Indiana, McCurdy was a 
member of Florida Masonic lodge here and of the Sons of the American 
Revolution. He is survived by two sons; brother; a sister; four grandchildren, 
and two great-grandchildren.
Masonic services were held a two p.m. Sunday at the Calvin chapel.  Religious 
rites were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday by Pastor William Draper of the Seventh 
Day Adventist Church. 
Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mabel McCurdy, 80, is buried here

Mabel McCurdy was buried recently at Maple Hill Cemetery, following funeral 
services at Calvin Chapel. She died at the Kimmel rest home at Bangor, where 
her husband is a patient. 
She was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Mrs. McCurdy is survived by her husband, Walter, two sons, Hubert of Dolton, 
Illinois, and Wade of Chicago; four grandchildren, and two great-
grandchildren. Seventh Day Adventist Pastor W. W. Smith officiated at the 
services and ushers were pallbearers.
