DUFENDACH,, JOE GORDON 85, died Monday Dec. 21, 1998, in Delta Jct. Alaska, where he live with his son Jon and family. Joe was born 4/28/13 in Huntingburg, In. where, as a child, he worked in the family drugstore and newspaper, the Huntingburg Independent. He was graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1931 and the University of Michigan in 1936. In August 1937 he married Isabel Champion of Algonac, Mi. He farmed land on Dickenson Island near Algonac before joining Briggs Mfg. Co. in Detroit; it was combined with Chrysler Corp. where he worked 20 yrs. until his retirement in 1972 as Manager of Purchases - Since 1963 he made 28 round trips across his beloved Alaska Highway. He settled in Delta Junction Ak in Sept 98, just prior to going home to be with the Lord. Joe is survived by his wife Isabel of Delta Jct., daughter Sarah (Alan) of Wash. D.C., son Jon (Carol), grandchildren Amy Miller (Jay), Lynn Chavez (Fabian), Julia and Anna, grandson Curtis and great grandsons Timothy and Anthony of Delta Jct. and cousins Dale Helmerich and Helen Lehmkuhler of Huntingburg. Joe will be remembered for his honesty, giving heart, sense of humour, and most of all, his simple faith in Christ. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on September 28, 1913 to William and Elizabeth (Stone) Whichello. He graduated from Belleville High School. Married Marian Renton in 1936. Had three daughters, one dying at birth. He traveled throughout the world including China, Japan, Europe and South America. In 1946 he founded the Draw-lite Manufacturing Co., making trailer hitches, winches and couplers all personalized to each car. At one time he had 140 employees. He piloted a twin engine plane and he and his wife flew all over the US and Canada. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He had been a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. His family was always important to him and he was very proud of his two daughters. He is survived by his wife Marian of Corvallis; daughters Donna Lee Whichello of Corvallis and Linda Beth Myers of Seattle, WA; brother Harlan Whichello of Brandan, FL; sisters Frances Bitnar of Paradise, MI, Betty Qualls of Houghton Lake, MI and Irene Fensch of Port Charlotte, FL; and granddaughter Linda Lee Hallister of Corvallis.
