He had been in robust health up to the very time he was stricken, and his death was one of the most sudden that have occurred here in a long time. Mr. SMITH was of English birth but had resided in Detroit since 1837. He was in business with A.C. McGraw, first as a clerk and subsequently as a partner, until 1853. He then went into business for himself and continued actively engaged therein ever since. He was a genial, social man and had many cordial personal, as well as business, friends.
