Married 6 Dec 1877 London England to Annie Underwood 1857-1920. They had 8 children, 5 survived infancy. Gordon Henry Montagu was a well known chemist in paint and varnishes in the East, Chicago IL, Detroit MI and St Louis MO. He was active in journalism, writing for newspapers in Hartford Conn. and Pittsburg PA and was the author of the novel, Glen Ellyn, Paint Maker, as well as several books on paint and varnishes. He was one of the best known men in the paint business in this country, and was connected with some of the largest manufacturers, his first years in the East and then with Heath & Milligan Mfg Co, Chicago, Boydell Bros, Acme White Lead & Color Works, Peninsular Paint & Varnish Co.,Detroit MI. At his death he was with Mound City Paint & Color in St Louis MO., having been employed since 1909.
