Nichols of Tustin died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006. He was 85. He was born Aug. 29, 1921 in Cadillac to Frank and Olive Nichols. He married Wanda Yount of Cadillac April 4, 1943. She preceded him in death in January 1987 after nearly 45 years of marriage. He married Doris Eggle July 17, 1987. Mr. Nichols attended Cadillac High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was stationed at Iron Range, Australia, Port Morseby, Dobodura and Nadzab, New Guinea (5th Air Force, 90th Bomb Group, 319th Bomb Squadron). He was discharged in 1947 at the rank of staff sergeant. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1985. He also worked for Brooks and Perkins and Kysor Corporation of Cadillac. Mr. Nichols was a member of The First Baptist Church of Cadillac where he sang in the choir, Cadillac American Legion Post, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Clam Lake Masonic Lodge. He was a lifelong stamp collector, enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, reading and music. He loved his family, extended family and his country. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda; sisters, Louise Blanchard and Norma Nichols; and step-grandson, Kristopher Eggle. Services are noon Saturday at The First Baptist Church of Cadillac with Rev. David McMahon officiating. Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Antioch Township Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Kris Eggle Scholarship Fund.
