Mrs. Sparks grew up in Grand Rapids and lived there until moving to the Mesick area in 1941. She was a member of the Rollins Church and Manton Retirees Club. She enjoyed church, teaching Sunday School, playing the piano and singing. In addition to her husband, Orlo, she was preceded in death by her half-sister, Doris Lyons. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Rollins Church in Manton with Rev. Robert Lanning officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Township Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton. He was 90. He was born April 24, 1911 in Antioch Township to Charles and Mary (Sayers) Sparks. He married Marjorie Oatley on Jan. 3, 1933 in Antioch Township. She preceded him in death in 1934. He then married Thelma Soper on Jan. 13, 1940 in Grand Rapids. Mr. Sparks grew up in Antioch Township. He worked in his younger years as a carpenter. He served in the Army during World War II in the battle of Normandy and northern France. He was employed for 10 years at Chris Craft in Cadillac and worked as a farmer for many years, retiring in 1972. Mr. Sparks was a member of the Rollins Christian Fellowship Church in Manton and the Manton Area Retirees Club. He loved farming and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton with the Rev. Robert Lanning officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Antioch Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rollins Church."
