Spencer, age 87, of Mesick went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 16, 2007 at his home. He was born to Aaron and Olive (Bulock) Spencer in Mesick on May 12, 1919 and graduated from Mesick High School in 1937. He married the former Verta Usewick in Mesick on Jan. 29, 1940. Mr. Spencer lived in the Detroit area for a few years and then served in the U.S. Army as a combat rifleman in Luzon and the Ryukyus Islands in World War II. He received two Bronze Battle Stars. After the war, he returned with his family to the Mesick area. He worked at Kysor Heater in Cadillac for several years and operated his own business, Spencer Tool and Gage, in Mesick until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Sherman Gospel Hall. He loved the Lord and loved being with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verta on June 12, 2006; and also two sisters, Chrystal Armstrong and Audrey Overla. Funeral services will be held at the Sherman Gospel Hall with Norman Crawford officiating on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 1 p.m. with burial in Antioch Township Cemetery. Visitation will also be at his church on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being made through the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton.
