She had borne her sufferings for years with great fortitude. Emily Howard was born in Bancroft, Wisconsin, in 1848. She was united in marriage to W. J. Bates in Waterloo, Iowa. About 20 years ago they moved to Anoka to reside, and 5 years age Mr. Bates passed away. She was a member of the M.E. Church of Anoka and was a woman of high ideals and Christian living. She is survived by one son, W. E. Bates of Anoka and one brother and two sisters. The funeral services will be held from the home of her son this afternoon at 2:30. Rev. F. T. Drewett, officiating.
