Jeremah Fitzgerald Clifford was born at Bollyalan, County Limerick Ireland in the year of 1858, being seventy-one years of age at the time of his death. When thirteen years of age he came to the United States settling in Chicago, Ill., where he lived until late in the year of 1877 when he moved to Hopkins, Minnesota. Early in the spring of 1878 he came to Big Stone County where he took up a homestead and made his home until his death. Mr. Clifford was one of the earliest pioneers of Big Stone County and took an active part in the public affairs of the community holding many offices of trust and prominence. In the year of 1891 he was married to Mary Betts who with nine children survive him; three sons, Victor, Clarence and James, and six daughters; Mrs. Wm. Mullin of this city, Mrs. B. J. Byrne of Clara City, Minnesota, Mrs. C. O. Krook, Clinton, Mrs. R. M. Lang, Hoffman, Mrs. R. D. Stiles, Minneapolis and Alice Clifford of Barry. One brother, Thomas Clifford, of Duluth also survives him who was unable to attend the funeral because of his age, being 83 years old. His funeral was held at St. Barnabas Church, Barry, Minnesota, Thursday, February 21st and his body laid to rest in Lakeside cemetery beside his oldest son, William, who preceded him in death a little over a year ago. The pallbearers were: David Rice, Dan Campion, Charles Keeler, James Fermoyle, Martin Larkin and Joseph Fermoyle." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: I contacted the Big Stone County Historical Society regarding burial records for the Clifford's. Here is what I received in the mail from the Historical Society: Graceville Cemetery: Clifford: Clarence C., born 9-29-1903 died 6-18-1952 Notation on his tombstone reads: Calif. Pvt. 13 AAF Mess Sq WWII Mother 1867-1942 (Jeremiah F.) Jeremiah F. Father 1858-1929 William 1891-1927 Clarence and William are sons of Jeremiah Clifford and Mary Betts. ========================================================================= Copyright.
