The Clifford's immigrated from Ireland in the late 1860's. They first went to Chicago, Ill. My great-grandfather was Thomas Clifford, brother to Jeremiah F. Clifford and Catherine Clifford Dyer. It appears that Catherine and Thomas lived together in Chicago for a period of time; from about 1870ish until 1876, when Catherine Clifford married Francis Dyer in Chicago, Ill. The Dyer's appears to be one of the first families to migrate to Big Stone County MN. Followed shortly thereafter by Jeremiah, and then my great-grandfather Thomas by 1882. 1885 census records for Big Stone Co, show Jeremiah Clifford living with his brother Thomas in Browns Valley Township. Catherine Clifford and husband Francis Dyer lived in Toqua Township. All of Jeremiah's children (wife Mary Betts) were born in Big Stone County; and these children were: 1. William Francis Clifford born October 1891 in Graceville died April 25 1927 Vet of WWI 2. Mary J.
