Monday morning at 11 a.m. November 12 with Rev. Higbee officiating. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Pearl, Mrs. A.L. Wolfmeyer of Correll and Evelyn, Mrs. Ward Johnson, Pierpont, S.D., also one son Neil, of Pierpont and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at the funeral were O.B. Light, Sydney Paulson, Walter Lofquist, Frank Johnson, A.R. Lidel and J.A. Anderson. Internment was in Mound Cemetery at Ortonville where Hans Holme, Ernest Mateer, Otto Wiese, Orrin Anderson, Allen Nelson and Ernest Krier acted as pallbearers. Melissa Angelina Burgess, daughter of Hannah and Hiram Burgess was born October 4, 1866 in Wasesa county of Minnesota, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ward Johnson, November 9, 1951 at the age of 85. She spent her youth in Minnesota where she attended rural and high school in Sauk Centre. She taught several terms of school in this state and at Lynn Lake, S.D. July 1891 she married William Eaton in Irving township, Kandiyohi county, Minn. They traveled by covered wagon to Pierpont where they homesteaded a year, then moved to a farm east of town. In 1909 the sold their farm and moved to Ortonville where they lived until 1916 when they moved to Rio Hondo, Texas, living on a vegetable farm until 1922. The next year they were in Sacramento, Calif., where Mr. Eaton died. Living for a time with her daughter Evelyn, when she taught, she has made her home since 1933 in Pierpont. Active in church and community work all her life she joined the Pierpont Presbyterian church shortly after going to Dakota.
