FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy VanVleet Submitted: January 2005 ========================================================================= Carl Fredrick Wilhelm Hamann February 18, 1898 to December 13, 1962 County Farmer Killed As Truck Rolls into Ditch; Funeral Held at Trinity Saturday A well-known Big Stone county farmer, Bill Hamann, 64, was killed instantly last Thursday morning when the truck he was driving went out of control and crashed into a ditch about three miles northeast of Ortonville. Bill was heading into Ortonville on the county road known as the diagonal road, when the mishap occurred near the home of his sister, the William Schellberg farm, at about 10:30 a. m. He was alone in the truck, and it is believed he possibly suffered a stroke which caused the accident. Funeral services for William Carl Hamann, were held last Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p. m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church, Ortonville. Rev. E. W, Eifert officiated and interment was in Mound cemetery. Musicians at the services were Mrs. E. w. Eifert, Mrs. Gordon Gloege, and Mrs. Weston Schneck, organist. Mr. Hamann was born Feb. 18 1898, in Grant County, S. D., the son of the late Wm. and Minnie Hamann and was baptized March 20, 1898, in Grant County. He was confirmed at the Odessa Evangelical Lutheran Church, March 31, 1912. One June 4, 1925 he was married to Meta Ella Kohler, to which union four children were born, one of who preceded his father in death. Mr. Hamann lived in the Ortonville area all his life and for the past 21 years, he farmed just north of Ortonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Marvin, a sister, Frances, a brother August, and a granddaughter, Nancy. Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Elda (Mrs. Martin Schmidt) or Ortonville, two sons, Arthur of Beardsley and Lorance of Clinton. Also, two grandchildren, four brothers, Fred of Ortonville, Richard of Clinton, Otto of Graceville, and Frank of Revillo; four sisters, all of Ortonville, Mrs. Mary Schellberg, Hattie,, Mrs. Erick Ehlert and Mrs. Albert Semrau. Also many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Robert Baerwaldt, Willard Bakeberg, Leonard Fitzner, George Pinkert, Sr., Arthur Schellberg, and Elmer Thielke. ======================================================================== Copyright Judy VanVleet 2006.
