Hamann Loses Life in Accidental Discharge of Shotgun An Ortonville boy, Marvin Clarence Hamann, who was to have graduated from eighth grade tonight, was fatally injured last Sunday afternoon when his dog playfully jumped on him, resulting in the accidental discharge of the 410 shotgun which he was holding. The shot penetrated his body above his hip. At the time of the tragic accident, Marvin and his brother, Arthur were in the farmyard preparing to shoot blackbirds. When Marvin was shot, the other boy ran to the neighbors for help. Marvin died from excessive loss of blood enroute to the hospital. Funeral services were held today in the Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Koch officiating. Interment was in the Ortonville cemetery. Marvin, son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Hamann, was 16 years of age, born March 20, 1930 at Big Stone City and was baptized three days later in St. John's Lutheran church in Alban township in South Dakota. On July 9, 1944 he was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran church in Ortonville. He moved with his family to a farm north of Ortonville in the fall of 1941. Surviving are his parents, two grandparents, one great grandparent, two brothers, Arthur and Lawrence, and a sister, Elda. ======================================================================== Copyright Judy VanVleet 2006.
