Charles F. Steffen of Odessa, who had been in failing health the last year, died Wednesday morning, November 14, 1951, in the Appleton hospital where he had been a patient for two months. He was 84 years of age. Funeral services for him will be held Friday, in Ortonville at 1:15 from Schoen's chapel and at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church at Odessa. Rev. Walter Going will officiate. Otto and Emil Steffe, LeRoy and Leander Stei, Ed Wagner and Gust Stock have been chosen as pallbearers. Buriel will be in the Odessa cemetery. Mr. Steffen was born August 21, 1867 in Germany. Coming to the United States when he was 15, he he settled first in Wisconsin and the moved to Big Stone county with his parents. He has resided on a farm three miles east of Odessa. He married Ella Strehmel May 28, 1894, in Columbus, Wisconsin. She died December 21, 1936. Surviving him are three children, Otto of Odessa, and Emil and Selma at home, four grandchildren, Earl Steffen of Portland, Oregon, who is in the air force, Orvil Steffen in the navy at San Diego, Wendel Steffen in the air force in Germany and Darlene Steffen of Odessa. His two great grandchildren are Jeffrey Steffen of Portland, Ore., and Brenda Lee Steffen of Odessa.
