BARNES" "Mrs. Sarah A. Barnes died at seven o'clock this morning at her home, 533 Pary Street, aged seventy- one years. She had been sick since July. Her husband Wm. Barnes died twelve years ago at Mountain Lake. Two children survive her, O. L. Barnes and Mrc. C. E. McNeal, both of this City. Mrs. Barnes was born in Lisbon, Me., and moved to Minneapolis in 1855 and in 1885 move to Mankato, and had resided here ever since. She was an active member of the M. E. Church until her last illness. The funeral will occur from the house at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon." __________________________________________ Aubmitter's Note: Factual resume: Willam Barnes, her husband, was born in Bowdoinham, Me., 12/17/1801. He died at Mountain Lake, Cottonwood Co., Minn. 09/30/1881. He m. Nancy Blanchard in in Lincoln Me., in 1829. They had Nancy J. brn abt 1843 and Noah brn abt 1848. Nancy died about 1849. William m. Sarah a. Getchell on July 6, 1852, in Licoln, Pebobscot Co., Me. They had Ida Florence, brn in 1855 in ME. 1855-56 William was in Young America Carver Co., Minn. In the 1860 census: Florence, Carver Co. Minn. William 59, M, farmer, brn ME Sarah, 33, F, brn Me Noah, 22, M, farmer, brn Me. Ida Florence 5, F, brn Me Oring L. (Sic) 2, M. brn Min The daughter Nancy J. may have married? or died? 1870, Ritchfield, Hennepin Co., Minn. William, 68, M, Book and Shoe Maker, brn Me. Sarah, 43, F. brn Me. Ida, 14, F, brn Me. Orrin L., 12, M, brn Minn. Sara's brother was with them and they leased the land. Owen Barnes had moved on to Oshkosh, Wis. 1870, 1880 Quincy, and in 1890 Easton, Adams Co. Wis. William came to Cottonwood in 1872. Mountain Lake, Cottonwood Co., Minn, 1875. Wm. Barnes, 78, M. brn Me. Sarah, 48, F, brn. Me. Orin L. Barnes (sic) 17, M., brn Minn. Charles F. Barnes, 29, M. brn Me. Ida F. Barnes, 17, F., brn Me. 1880 Mountain Lake, Cottonwood County, Minn. I. F. Barnes, W/F 24, wife, keeping house Eugene, W/M 5, son, brn Minn. Ida M., W/F, 1, dau. brn Minn. Charles F. Barnes, son of John P. Barnes and Bethia Henderson, was William's nephew. John P and his family arrived in Maple Plain, Hennepin Co. about the time William left. A Charles F. homesteaded in Cottonwood Co., in 1882 and also in Wisc. later re land in Minn., but without more cannot tell if this is our Charles F. Eugene the son was beleived to have been a twin born in 1875. His name may have been Eugene Charles or vise versa per Orrin's obit in 1938. Wiilliam was survived by three children, Owen, Orrin and Ida F. That is why think Nancy J. died. Ida F. appears to have married 2nd C. E. McNeal and moved to Mankata.
