Parks, a member of Capt. Austin's cavalry company was taken ill, and died on Wednesday at one o'clock. The physicians pronounce the fatal disease to be black measles. Mr. Parks formerly resided at Fox Lake, Wisconsin, but removed to Minnesota in 1857. Wherever he has lived, his pure character and unspotted career have won for him the esteem of all, and charitable deeds have been a portion of his existence. Whenever a good act was to be performed, no one entered into it more cordially; and that noble quality which "covereth up a multitude of sins" manifested itself in him to an unusual extent. Without attachment to any religious creed, his life was eminently Christian, and entitles him to the rewards which God has promised to the just. [His grave is in the Garden City Cemetery, Blue Earth County, MN. It is marked with a GAR cast iron star. Information in brackets added by the transcriber – William W. Porter on 7 August 2004]
