Mr. Porter was born on June 26, 1863 on a farm in Ceresco township. Here in the midst of many friends Milton grew to manhood. He was of a bright and cheerful disposition, ready to give a helping hand to those in need. About fifteen years ago the family moved to Vernon Center where they have since resided. A few years ago occurred the death of his brother Charlie, a sorrow which changed and saddened Milton's after life. Milton Porter was a man of his word and of excellent business ability. To his unerring judgment in business transactions is largely due the accumulation of property in the family estate. The funeral was held from the family home Friday, January 30. Rev. T. R. Paden of Mankato conducting the services. Mr. Porter was laid to rest beside his brother in the Vernon Center cemetery. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Frank Clague of Redwood Falls, a brother, Miles of Mankato, and a widowed mother. His familiar figure will be greatly missed among the people of this village. To his mother his loss will be most keenly felt, as he was a devoted son, assuming the cares and responsibilities of the home since the death of his father some twenty years ago. He was taken to Shakopee early last week, according to his wishes, although his family realized his condition wss [was] such as to leave no room for hope. Mr. Porter was never married, but remained at home with his mother [Ellen], who will sorely miss his presence. Besides the mother, one sister, Mrs. Clague, of Redwood Falls, and one brother, Miles, of Mankato, remain to mourn his loss; the father [John] and one brother, Charles, having passed into the Great Beyond some years ago.
